Scientific name: Scomberomorus cavalla

Appearance:
Dorsal surface of the king mackerel is black with bluish-green iridescence, while its side is silvery in color. Its entire body has very small, loosely attached scales. Front portion of its first dorsal fin is colorless. The lateral line starts high on the shoulder, drops abruptly below the second dorsal fin, and continues as a wavy lateral line towards the tail. The young fish have yellowish brown spots on its flanks, though spots are a bit smaller than those of the Spanish mackerel.

Habitat:
King mackerel are located nearshore and offshore, though they may be found in deep waters every now and then.

Florida locations:
These fish can be located in south Florida.
