Fat Snook (Centropomus parallelus)

Scientific name: Centropomus parallelus

Appearance:
The fat snook possesses a deeper body compared to other snooks. The fish is yellow-brown to green brown in color above its body, and has silvery sides. A black lateral line extends to its tail. The mouth extends to or beyond center of its eye. It doesn’t have dusky outer edge on its pelvic pins compared to other snooks. Of all the snooks, the fat snook has the smallest scales.

Habitat:
Fat snook fish are found inshore among the magroves. They are also common in fresh waters. They are seen more in interior waters than estuarine waters, as compared to other snooks.

Florida locations:
Fat snook fish is common in Lake Okeechobee down through the Keys.
