Naples

History

In the late 1880s, the former Confederate general and Kentucky U.S. Senator John Stuart Williams and Louiseville businessman Walter Haldeman instituted Naples. From the 1870s to the ’80s, magazines and newspapers recorded and compared the area’s placid climate and flourishing number of fishes to the Italian peninsula. The etymology of “Naples” came from the fact that promoters described that the area even outmatched the bay in Naples in Italy.

Getting There

Tourists arrive to Naples through Southwest Florida International Airport, which is 42 miles fron the city. From there, guests can always rent a car to drive around Naples.

Weather

Naples’ weather generally falls under the savanna type—having more evident dry spells and less rainfall.

Average high temperature is 91°F, usually around July and August. Average low temperature is 54°F, around January and February. Lowest average recorded precipitation is 1.5 inches in December, and highest recorded precipitation is 8.18 inches in June.

What to Wear

During summer months, it is advisable to wear light-colored and cool clothing, especially those made from cotton. Women can wear skirts and cool sundresses. Flip flops are definitely something to bring. If you plan to stay outdoors for longer hours, bring along a hat, a pair of shades for eye protection, and apply a generous amount of sunblock with a high SPF, applying every 2 to 3 hours.

When on business meetings, wear appropriate clothing made of light-colored and cool materials. For night outs, it is advisable to wear appropriate outfits.

During the rainy seasons, be sure to have a jacket or sweatshirt. Same goes for non-rainy days but with cooler nights.
